“Perhaps one day it will please us to remember these things,” Otto said, looking over the battlefield a where he almost just lost his life.
“What do you mean?” Evander asked, his voice laced with confusion. He couldn’t understand Otto’s words. “Why would it be pleasant to remember such terrible times in life?” Otto paused, watching the distant fire as the dark shriek crept into the air.
“Remembering battles, wars, and such will remind us how lucky we are to have survived and lived on to tell the tale,” Otto explained, turning to face Evander before he continued.
“I’ll remember how lucky I was to fight at your side and how grateful I am that I even got to meet you. You’re my best friend, Evander,” the former prince said with a smile, “and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.”
“You’re always so happy, Otto,” Evander complained, although he was grateful that the younger thought of their companionship so kindly. It’s melted his heart.
“But I do appreciate how cheesy and kind you are,” Evander admitted, giving Otto a playful nudge.
“See? I knew you’d crack like an egg.”
“Shut up, princey.”
